What I love about summer: lazy days on the beach, salt-water made sultry waves (thanks, beach), the scent of sunblock, and a sun-kissed glow. What I don’t love? Sunburn, makeup that melts, pesky pimple breakouts, and my hair’s arch nemesis—D.C.’s infamous humidity. Needless to say, I count on numerous amounts of products throughout the summer. But instead of dry lipsticks and heavy foundations, I’ve opted for a low-maintenance routine that’s nothing short of flawless. Here, my summer must-have products:
For your skin:
Stay ahead of pesky summer breakouts with Boscia Clear Complexion Tonic
($24). This multi-tasking mist not only unclogs pores but also helps firm skin and minimize dark spots from previous breakouts. Keep it handy for extra long car rides or flights, or in your beach tote.
Swap out your foundation this summer with the latest trending moisturizer, BB Cream. Estee Lauder DayWear BB Cream
($38) hides imperfections, moisturizes, protects against harmful UV rays, not to mention it’s lightweight, all while leaving a refreshing cucumber scent.
A sun-kissed glow is always in style in the summer, but why attract harmful UV rays when you can fake it? I’m obsessed with Charlotte Ronson Summer Always Scented Gradual Tan Body Lotion
($28) that gives you a luminous glow in just three days. If you love being outdoors (or you’re on a budget) try Jergens Natural Glow Daily Moisturizer SPF 20
(about $8). For your eyes:
Long-wear makeup that really lasts is hard to come by. And during those humid summer nights, you’ll do anything to keep your makeup from melting. During the summer months, I always reach for Make Up For Ever’s Aqua Cream
($23), a creamy long-lasting formula created to fight harsh environments (hello humidity!) that can be used on eye, lips and cheeks. The best eyeliner worth splurging on is Bobbi Brown’s Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner
($22). It’s water resistant and precise like a liquid liner but easy to apply because of its gel-based formula.
Before taking a dip in the pool, coat your lashes with smudge proof mascara. Make a drugstore dash for Maybelline’s Falsies Volum’ Express Waterproof Mascara
(about $6) which also packs volume and length. For your lips:
Keep your lips soft and supple this season with a limited edition M-61 Sara Happ Lip Scrub
($24). Made with Jojoba oil, Grapeseed oil and cucumber will condition and smooth lips. Follow up with a moisturizing lip balm such as Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain
(about $9). If you love a lip shine, treat yourself to Mirabella Colour Luxe Lip Gloss
($26), which not only conditions lips and packs anti-aging properties and leaves lips glowing with a three-dimensional light-reflecting shimmer. For your hair:
Can’t go to the beach this summer? Bumble & Bumble brings the beach to you with their Surf Spray
($24) that will help you re-create those sexy, beach waves. [Scrunching tip: fold hair accordian-style and squeeze to create organized waves.]
Everyday spent during the summer in D.C. is a day that you’re fighting frizz. Moroccanoil is my holy grail of anti-frizz treatments. I love to pop a travel-sized Moroccanoil Treatment
($15.80) in my tote to help manage those unruly hair days. Kara Manos writes about all things beauty inside (and outside) the beltway on her blog, Politics of Pretty.Twitter: @dcshopgirl
